About

Escape Modern is a vintage and mid-century modern furniture and lighting shop based in Pittsburgh, run by Alex.

How we find pieces

Everything in the shop is curated and sourced by hand by us. We look for well-made design with a story behind it: Scandinavian furniture and lighting, California modern, and American mid-century pieces and more, along with ceramics and objects that deserve a second life in your home.

How we restore them

Restoration is done in-house. Depending on the piece, that can mean refinishing wood with lacquer, oil, or toner, working with a reupholsterer, or treating rust on metal. The goal is always a piece that is ready to live with while keeping its original character.

Where to find us

New pieces show up on Instagram first at @escape.modern. You can also find us on Etsy, eBay, Chairish, and Facebook Marketplace. Local pickup in Pittsburgh is available by appointment.
